Youtube Invitation

As you are all probably aware by now
the Seanchai Library has its own Youtube Channel

We have become a bit more active with it, and have gained a bit of momentum with views and new subscribers. We’d like to keep that momentum going, and so want to keep posting stuff there.

So an offer to you, the friends and storytellers of Seanchai…

If you would like to read an Edgar Allan Poe tale we can post it on our Youtube Channel. There may be more than one person that wants to do a given tale, that is fine. Just pick a tale that you enjoy presenting. Each teller offers a new perspective, and different listeners may enjoy different styles.

Now, the particulars…

Audio
If you have the means to do an audio recording of yourself we can get it uploaded to Youtube for you. If you do not have the means to record, we can meet inworld and we can record you there.

Video
Youtube of course has a visual as well as audio component. There are several options for this…
- use an existing video sequence
- record a video sequence inworld
- create a slideshow
You can see examples of each of these on our Youtube Channel right now. I’m sure there are other options as well.
One thing we want consistent with the Edgar Allan Poe stories is to have the visual component be in black and white. This seems the proper tone for the material, but also will help guide our viewers to these selections visually on the Youtube page.

Production
If you need help with the audio recording, or creating a video sequence/slideshow, or merging the two together, or just changing everything to black and white… I will be happy to help as my time permits. Uploading the final piece to Youtube will be done by Derry, or Cale, or Bear, or myself.

Copyright
Anything and everything we do for this type of presentation must NOT be in Copyright (or we must have the permission of the Copyright owner).
Some may have the impression that Youtube only allows 10 minute or less clips. This is certainly not the case. If you peruse Seanchai Library Youtube Channel you will see that most are in excess of 30  minutes, some over two hours. By ensuring that we do not violate copyright we retain the privilege of uploading longer pieces.
All of Poe’s works are out of copyright. A possible exception to this would be “re-done” Poe stories, or analysis’s, or biographical, or the like. So we would like to stick with straight Poe stories.

Text
Poe is widely available on the internet, however, if you are having trouble finding a particular story you’d like to do, let me now, I may have it available. It is likely that none of us are familiar with ALL Poe’s works, so you may want to take some time to peruse his works, and see if anything strikes your fancy. You may even want to Google POE on Youtube at large and see what others have presented. (of course your presentation will be superior!).

Other Stuff
We have chosen Poe at this time as it is has wide appeal, is easily available, is definitively not in copyright, and gives us a common ground to work with as we get up to speed on this.
That said, there may be other stuff besides Poe that you’d like to do and then have posted on the Youtube Channel. Even your weekly storytelling sessions. This is a possibility as we move forward. The first criteria of course is its copyright status. Beyond that it would need to be reviewed by Seanchai Library staff.

Promotion
Naturally we would all benefit from any promotion you can do in your circles for our Youtube Channel. Also, your name will appear as the presenter of your piece (unless you wish anonymity), and whatever contact information you would like to post will be made available.

Getting Started
Find a tale you’d like to do, and then let me know what assistance, if any, you’d like to get it ready for posting.
